Countdown to the start of the ceremony, in Angola time.

When school is close, the future is too

The new Criança Feliz School grew from a question shaped together with the community: how can we create a different future for the next generations?

Six years ago, children as young as three to five walked up to 6 kilometers a day to reach the children’s center, facing a steep and dangerous descent, often without an adult.

The Criança Feliz Social Complex brought early childhood education closer. But as the children grew, many began walking up to 14 kilometers to continue their education. Some gave up; others persevered despite exhaustion and hardship. The new school was created to change that reality.

From early childhood to continued education

The project grew alongside the children, responding to the challenges that arose at each new stage of their education.

01
The reality we found

Learning was far away

Children aged three to five walked a long and dangerous route every day to reach the children’s center. For many families, this was the only way to begin their children’s education.

02
The first response

The Social Complex is born

The Criança Feliz Social Complex was built in the heart of the community. Its Children’s Center created a safe, welcoming environment close to home where children could begin school.

03
A new challenge

The children grew

After the Children’s Center, continuing school could require a walk of up to 14 kilometers. Distance, exhaustion, and hardship caused some children to leave education behind.

04
The next transformation

A school that helps children stay

The new Criança Feliz School extends the path begun by the Children’s Center, giving more students the conditions to learn, progress, and build their future within their own community.

Breaking distance and cycles

In the surrounding communities, an estimated 90% of the population — children, young people, and adults — still lacks adequate access to literacy education.

The school was designed so children can replace long walks with hours of learning, while people of all ages find new opportunities close to home.

“This school is more than a building. It is an opportunity for an entire community to write a new story.”

Education for all ages

Even before the official opening, more than 200 children, teenagers, and adults are already participating in Literacy and Accelerated Learning programs.

01

Close to home

Less time on long journeys and more time learning safely.

02

Literacy

The opportunity to write one’s own name, read a prescription, and understand a contract.

03

Accelerated learning

Support to regain opportunities and continue in school.

04

Stronger families

Literate adults can help their children with schoolwork and participate more independently in community life.

A transformation spanning generations

Every literate person represents a stronger family. For an adult, learning to read and write can mean signing their own name, understanding a prescription, interpreting a contract, and helping their children with schoolwork.

For children, studying close to home means greater safety, attendance, energy to learn, and a real chance to stay in school. For the community, it means reducing inequality and creating new opportunities for health, development, and prosperity.

Education changes more than an individual path: it enables parents, children, and the whole community to help build a shared future.

Partnerships that turn a dream into reality

The new Criança Feliz School brings together the community, civil society, and public authorities around a shared commitment: expanding access to education and creating opportunities for entire generations.
