Factory for
Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food

A local production facility for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, created to expand treatment for acute malnutrition and give thousands of children the opportunity to grow, develop, and dream.

A factory created to save lives

Sometimes the greatest transformations begin with an uncomfortable question. During a visit to Criança Feliz Angola’s projects, a doctor made a statement that deeply affected the team: “Everything you are doing is pointless.”

The statement seemed to contradict the care provided daily to hundreds of children. But it revealed a reality that still had to be faced: when malnutrition strikes during the earliest years, development can be compromised before a child even reaches school.

From this understanding came a new mission: reach the most vulnerable age group, intervene at the right time, and prevent poor nutrition from cutting short a lifetime of possibilities.

1.000first days

From pregnancy to approximately two years of age.

The first thousand days shape a lifetime

During this period, the brain grows rapidly, and a child needs proper nutrition, high-quality protein, vitamins, and essential minerals.

Malnutrition can harm growth, learning, cognitive development, and future opportunities. Acting early is not only about fighting hunger; it is about protecting a lifetime of potential.

International science recognizes the early years as a critical period for health, development, and learning ability.

A partnership built since 2018

Working with Casa Nutri under the leadership of Dr. Ailton Alves brought technical training, monitoring, technology transfer, and capacity building for the treatment of childhood malnutrition.

01

Team training

In-person and remote training to identify, monitor, and treat cases of malnutrition, especially severe chronic malnutrition.

02

Tangible results

In nine years, nearly 600 children diagnosed with severe chronic malnutrition recovered, with a success rate close to 90%.

Lives we could not reach in time

Forty-seven children did not receive care before it was too late. Each had a name, a family, and a story. That pain became a commitment.

Producing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food in Angola

The factory will produce RUTF—a high-energy therapeutic food rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, designed to support the recovery of children with acute malnutrition.

Ready-to-use therapeutic foods make it possible to treat children with severe acute malnutrition and no clinical complications in community settings with proper monitoring.

Although this food already reaches Angola through the health system and international partners, supply, cost, and logistics constraints can prevent it from reaching every community when needed.

Domestic productionLess dependence on imports and greater supply security.

Faster responseGreater capacity to respond to nutrition emergencies across the provinces.

Lower logistics costsMore resources directed toward reaching children and communities.

Controlled qualityAppropriate raw materials, laboratory testing, and rigorous standards.

Partners united by one purpose

The factory brings together funding, scientific expertise, international coordination, and social commitment.

Next target4.000children recovered over the next two years

The opening will be only the first step

Keeping the factory running will require high-quality raw materials, rigorous laboratory controls, specialized equipment, trained professionals, and an efficient logistics chain.

The commitment is to build a sustainable, continuous operation capable of quickly delivering therapeutic food to children with severe and moderate acute malnutrition.

This goal depends on companies, donors, churches, foundations, and individuals who believe no child should lose the chance to live because treatment was unavailable.

Turning pain into commitment

We will never forget the children we could not reach in time. Every packet produced will be a response to those losses. Every child who recovers will be a victory over malnutrition.

Because no child should die for lack of a food that could save their life.
